Modern day web browsers make it possible to view multiple web pages, on separate tabs. Obviously, this is an essential feature, because it helps you avoid cluttering your desktop with countless windows. After so many Windows editions, Microsoft never incorporated this feature in their operating system. As usual, you can fill the system's functionality gaps with third party software. In this case, WindowTabs is the application you need. It adds tabs to almost any window, enabling you to explore different locations on your hard drive, type your text or send emails, on the same interface.

The application works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, in both 32 and 64-bit versions. WindowTabs doesn't need to be installed, so you can just download its 2.9 MB executable, run it and enjoy the application's functionality.

WindowTabs supports any Windows application and numerous third party programs. The supported applications are detected automatically, when you launch them. WindowTabs displays them on its compact interface, which you can bring up by double clicking the system tray icon. You just need to click one or two check boxes, next to an application's entry, to add tabs to its interface or to group them automatically.

If you enable the auto-grouping feature, new windows will be added to a separate tab, on an existing window, of the same type. For example, if you open a second explorer window, it will appear on a new tab, on the first explorer window. These tabs work the same way as a browser's tabs. You can rearrange them on a window, rip and move tabs from one window to another and so on.

The best part is that you can place any tab, regardless of the launched application, on the same window. In other words, you can visit web sites, explore your folders, compose and send emails, process images and much more, on the same window. Additionally, you may customize the appearance of your tabs and set up a few keyboard shortcuts to switch between tabs and groups.

Pros

You can add tabs on almost any window and use them just like on a modern day web browser. WindowTabs allows you to move tabs from one window to another and it makes it possible to organize different applications on the same window.

Cons

The application's trial version allows you to add a maximum of three tabs on the same window. The unique functionality of WindowTabs will help you unclutter your desktop, by organizing windows of any type on separate tabs.
